Delta SEE Radio
The series features African Americans in science, engineering and mathematics and highlights scientific research that is being conducted at private institutions and college campuses, particularly Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), nationwide. Delta National President and professional engineer, Gwendolyn E. Boyd stated that Delta Chapters throughout the sorority’s seven regions will also be showcased in reports on informal science, mathematics and technology activities they are sponsoring. The show presents highlights of these activities that young people and their families are participating in.
The show is hosted by Dr. Dhyana Ziegler, Assistant Vice President for Instructional Technology at Florida A&M University, with a closing commentary presented by Dr. Shirley Malcom of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In a joint statement, the SEE partners stated that they envision this project resulting in an impressive number of African Americans that are not simply informed consumers of science but also inspired creators of science and technology that is evident in everyday lives.
The Delta SEE Connection radio show is the foundation of an outreach that includes Web presence and regional support from more than 900 Delta chapters. Beyond initially airing on WOL-AM (in 2003), the series will be made available to radio stations in African American markets and to HBCU-based radio stations, as well as community organizations that are interested in using the series as an outreach tool. Radio stations can air each show in its entrety or use clips from the show.
